Call for new CBVE Working Group Members:


The AAVMC Council on Outcomes-based Veterinary Education (COVE) seeks nominations of individuals with passion for, and the time to commit to, advancing excellence in veterinary education. For nomination, please submit letter (maximum 1 page) expressing your interest, a brief CV targeted to the criteria listed below, and an administrative letter of support for your time and travel expenses (e.g., dean / associate dean / department head). Please submit these documents to Brooklind Norman by August 1, 2024. Commitment is expected to be a three-year term beginning September 1, 2024. International interest is welcomed from all AAVMC member institutions.

The CBVE Analyze Working Group advances scholarship in veterinary education. Individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to submit their nomination for this working group:

  • A basic/foundational science educator

  • Qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed research methods and data analysis

The CBVE Activate Working Group provides resources to enhance veterinary education. Individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to submit their nomination for this working group:

  • Outcomes-based education and curriculum design

  • Training educators in educational principles, best practices, and effective curriculum design

  • Developing online learning materials

The CBVE Outreach Working Group educates stakeholders using evidence to promote and disseminate best practices in veterinary education. Individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to submit their nomination for this working group:

  • Engaging and educating key stakeholders on the features and benefits of CBVE

  • Supporting the adoption of outcomes-based education within veterinary programs in AVMA-accredited schools and globally

  • Preparing the veterinary profession to support CBVE-educated graduates in transition to practice

  • Sharing good practices in CBVE implementation and in the evaluation of CBVE outcomes

  • Communicating the best available evidence on outcomes-based education to the veterinary community

These groups are expected to work closely together and strong teamwork skills are considered essential. Other desirable qualities include:

  • Enthusiasm / sense of humor

  • Patience

  • Persistence

  • Ability to share, listen and discuss perspectives to reach consensus

  • Willingness to travel
