Customization of the CBVE Model
Approved by COVE June 3, 2025
Can we add Competencies or Domains of Competence to the Model?
To ensure fidelity of the CBVE Model, Competencies and Domains of Competence should not be altered in any way (i.e., these components should be applied as written in the CBVE Model).
Is there anything that we can we modify in the CBVE Model to better fit us?
To increase granularity surrounding program-specific areas of interest and to customize the model for best fit, subcompetencies may be created. In addition, it is possible for programs to construct additional Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), but it is recommended that the total number of EPAs assessed during workplace-based training does not exceed 12.
How can we get help with aligning our content to the CBVE Model?
You may reach out to the CBVE Outreach Working group at vetmed@cbve.org. Please allow up to four weeks for a response regarding requests for assistance. Please note that the goal of the CBVE Outreach Working Group is to support high level alignment at a program-specific high level (i.e., addition of subcompetencies). Session level learning objectives remain the sole responsibility of the program.
Is there a template we should follow?
The Council will provide examples of alignment that follow these guidelines.
The CBVE Model only supports DVM training. What about post-graduate training?
The Council is currently developing milestones to support residency training. Stay tuned for more information!
